IMRAD
My project will be over if people still use cable or if they use more modern forms like Netflix, Hulu or use both cable and a more modern form.
I will be asking a poll of these questions.
>How much cable do you watch per day.
>How many hours a day do you watch netflix or somthing like it eg. Hulu, or Crackle.

IMRaD Report v.s Research Paper
Our second major assignment was a research paper on a topic that had to do with our field. It had to be 6-7 pages long. For major assignment three we had to do a mediation on the same topic as major assignment 2. mediation is different then most other writing formats but closest to a research paper. IMRAD is structured in a way that gives a lot of information in a way that is quicker then a research paper.
IMRAD, like a research paper, is about collecting information and applying it to prove a point, but the IMRAD can show this in different ways. IMRAD reports have graphs and charts with still paragraphs of information. This allows readers to obtain more information from visuals. Although they both supply information the information is even diffrent between them. In IMRAD it is used mostly for scientific research and uses alot of statics for its answers. Research papers have a hard time doing this, but can apply more information on how to do things or things that require more words to prove.

5 Things a Page Needs and Two Websites That Have That
Spritsweb.com says that any key website needs these five steps to be a good website.
1. Appearance
2. Content
3. Functionality
4. Website Usability
5. Search Engine Optimization
Two websites that do a good job of this are Louisville.edu, and ua.edu. The main difference between the University of Louisville's website, and the University of Alabama's is Alabama's is more picture orientated. Although Alabama's page has more pictures Louisville's has more links and pages to go off of.

Median For Major Assignment 3
For major assignment 3 we have to use a median other then writing, such as power points, blogs, videos, or prezies. I will be using Prezi simply because I've used all the others already so much that I want to try out Prezi. Prezi is good for a couple things, it lets you use pictures videos and other multimedias to get out your point as well as it moves around in diffrent eye catching ways to give your topic the attention it wants.
Being able to use things like pictures and charts and videos, lets me get out information I might not be able to get out as easily in a paper."Pictures paint a thousand words", a frase we've all heard a thousand times growing up, but in a since its true. Pictures, and other forms of multimedia, allow you to show information and credibility that you might not be able to in just words. For example if you where talking about how many people still smoke and you wanted to show how little amount of people really still smoke you could make a pie chart or even use one the CDC already made for extra credibility.

Reflection# 2 of major assignment .
Major assignment one was a research paper that required me to go out and ask to find information, and not put my opinion into my paper. For major assignment 2 we did an argumentative paper that you did not really have to go out and interview people but you could if you wanted it to and with an argumentative paper you can put your opinion into a paper. One of my hardest struggles for writing is not opinionating my papers, it is the easy thing to do when in reality my opinion is not credible unless I am writing about how to unsuccessfully leave your opinion out of a paper.
With assignment one my main weakness was organization, although with assignment to it was a major focus of mine because I knew how poorly I did on the last one. In assignment two I already had in mind that i needed to make a better outline for my paper before it was required of us in class.
As a way to stay credible I tried my hardest to have all my sources from websites that where sponsored by the government or just a reliable source in general.
As topics go I choose a fairly easy topic to come up with information on, but one I was interested in. I focused on Originally the dangers and bans of Tobacco products but with further research I found out it was illegal for our government to out law the sell of tobacco. With this in mind now I changed the topic of my paper from out lawing to how Tobacco use will soon be a fad of the past, and whether the tobacco industry dropping off the face of the earth will be okay for the United States fragile economic system.
Overall I feel as if I did better with assignment 2 rather than assignment one, but not on my own doing if It was not pointed out to me how I had made these mistakes in my writing before I would have written the same way.

Free write on the connection between alcholism and serial killers
Every once in a while you will turn on the T.V and hear about a serial killer, hiding somewhere under peoples noses in big cities. It seems as if serial killers are becoming less occurring, which is a good thing for obvious reasons, but what is causing these mostly male, serial killers to slow down.
Alcohol is one of the few things that most of these serial killers have in common. Crimemusem.org even goes as far as saying being a alcoholic is one of the 9 early signs of being a potential serial killer. Jeffery Dahmer, one of the most nitrorious serial killers in america, confessed with his investigator over his case that alcohol was a major problem of his he. Dahmer started drinking at a young age and started having serious problems around the age of 14 and from there it grew to a whole new problem.
Dahmer was not the only serial killer who had a drinking problem he wass far from being the only one. People like John Wayne Gacy said alcohol was the causes of his murder and he killed over 30 people .

Reflection on First Major Assignment
In the process of writing an informational essay on the expectations of writing in the field of nursing, I learned several things in the process. Writing this paper not only taught me the basics of writing in the nursing field but also helped me refine my writing skills as a whole.
As a part of this paper I had to interview two nurses about how writing is used in their job.
Having to do so helped me gain information that a book or article could not have given me, and helped me touch up on my interviewing process. Writing this paper not only required me to interview two people in my future profession but also required that I had at least for sources. Having so made me quote a lot and assisted my writing in giving it more credibility and simply giving me the practice of quoting agin.
When this paper was first assigned I assumed that English did not play a big role, or any at all, in nursing since it is such heavily science based major. I realized once I stared reading scholarly articles and interviewing experts that I could not have been more wrong. English plays a major role in nursing and if a nurse does not make bench mark on how much english is needed to become a nurse they will fail at there job. Being a nurse of any field requires you to write reports on patients, and a heavy amount of continuous research through out a nurses a career. Both of these are critical to the job of a nurse and if done wrong could not only could hinder you from doing your job well, but if a report is written wrong it could cost a life.
Assignment one was overall a success in teaching me several things about my writing skills. I learned that I am not as good of a writer as I believed I was. I need to be able to quote better and not write with my opinion but more objective and giving my opinion in my paper as little as possible.
In order for me to be ready for my next major assignment i need to be able to do both of these things better in order to write at the skill level I would like.

Expectation in English of Nurses.
Jacob Taylor
Nursing
is becoming highly sought after job more and more everyday since the rate of
living is also going up everyday. Since health is up that means more people are
alive, which means there is more need for nurses. Although nursing is a job that will always
have jobs its not an easy job, and takes a large amount of studying and
training.
According
to the American Nurses Association “Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health
and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering
through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care
of individuals, families, communities, and populations”. Nursing is a job that
requires a lot of science background. To become a nurse at the University of
Louisville you have to take a minimum of 18 credit hours just in science
classes. Although Science is a very important aspect of nursing it’s not the
only one. English is a crucial and necessary class for becoming a nurse. “At the
baccalaureate level, it is expected that the RN could also write short articles
for publication and become involved in nursing research. This would require a
higher level of writing sophistication”(Dr. Altman). These expectations are put
on nurses because they need to be able to write very objective notes, research,
and write research papers.
In
preparation for this paper I interviewed two nurses, one active the other not,
the one thing they had in common when asked what was important in there field
when it came to writing, both said reports. Bernard Beins, from the APA,
explains reports as “… a story of a persons life”, which is a very accurate. Reports
are an observation of a patient that will help the doctor or a nurse know how
much medicine they’ve had or need as well as any other information needed to be
known about the patient. The objective of reports for nurses is to “ write a
report that is objective and precise as possible along with being legible for
the doctor to read” according to Dr. Taylor.
Reports
can be one of the most important parts of a nurse’s job and they need lots of
attention, a bad report could be life or death. In both of my interviews, with
Dr. Taylor and Mrs. Combs, bad report stories were told where the doctor had
written down illegibly the amount of medicine needed and the wrong dosage was
given to the patient. In Mrs. Combs story “a
doctor would write his orders they would write it really sloppy at times and it
would look like one amount but actually it would be another. This resulted in
the patient receiving the incorrect medication resulting in hypotension that
required a bolus of fluids to increase the patients pressure”. Even with the invention of Electric reports, which
are done on a computer, not all hospitals have these, so it is still very important
that nurses practice good handwriting.
A
lot of people believe that a nurses job ends after leaving the hospital, it is
not. Nurses
conduct research, use research in practice, and teach about research
(Nursingworld.org) Nurses are required to continue to research and write
analysis after they’ve made it into the health services. “…[Research
papers are] a systematic search for a deepening knowledge of our understanding
and meant to answer our questions about our patients, treatments and many other
things.” According to University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s college
of nursing. Researching helps nurses understand modern medicine, and ways to be
a better nurse.
Research involves,
but is not limited to, going to Research conferences, and reading other nurses,
and doctors research papers. Without research we would still be practicing old
medicine that is outdated and unnecessary. Research can be affective as finding out that
leeches don’t cure patients to discovering a way to cure cancer.
The understanding
of “sophisticated English” is very crucial to a nurse’s job. If he or she
cannot write like this it could end a persons life or prevent that nurse and
other nurses growth in the knowledge of their field. In order to be able to
understand “sophisticated English” nurses need to take upper level English
classes, Latin classes, to help with medical terms, along with a medical
terminology class. Dr. Taylor stated” nothing helped me more with writing in
nursing more then taking Latin classes, it helped me be as objective as I am
today”. Nurses need to make sure they are up to the expectation of them. With
out an understanding of writing you cannot make it as a nurse.

Sources Analysis
For Paper one I
have to discover the truth about the writing in my future major, nursing. For
this paper I needed a couple of sources to educate me on the topic of writing
in nursing. In my research I figured out the expectations as well as the ins
and outs of the important of Nursing writing. Writing in a health profession is
different then any other profession “when people write professionally in the
social, educational, or health sciences, they are telling a story about
people”(APA).
In regards to the
expectations of writing in nursing its pretty set forward what is wanted from
nurses. According to Dr. Altmann ““The
expectations at the associate degree level is to be clear, concise, and
articulate in a short amount of space”. Once you get to the baccalaureate level your
expected to be able to write short articles able enough to be published.
Because of media the most common thing thought
of when talking about wiritng and any health proffesion is probably the
diagnostics and those big white clipboards they carry around. Although that is
a major part of their job the nursingworld.org made it clear that that is not
the only thing expected by nurses though. “Nurses Conduct research in practices,
and teach about research”. Researching makes up a significant part of a nurses
job and carrys many important roles in the work field.
Interview Summary
Writing as a nurse
is very complex and requires years of classes to master. “ What helped me the
most in my career would be taking upper English classes in college as well as 2
years of Latin, that’s what helped me make my writing so objective” said Rhnea Taylor
when asked What helped her the most in her writing for nursing. Now Dr. Taylor,
made clear how important English and Latin classes were to her profession and
how it made her writing more objective.” As a nurse you cant write subjective,
you need to make sure you are objective. They don’t care about your opinions
they want the cold hard facts.
Before my
interview with Dr. Taylor I believed that most of writing in nursing was just
writing diagnostics and reports, but there is a lot more then just diagnostics.
To my surprise nursing is a lot more then just diagnostics. “A lot of nursing
is researching and learning more about health” said Rhnea Taylor when asked
what a majority of writing in nursing was. Researching helps the community with
health and furthers your education with health.
Although nursing
is not just made up of reports there is a large chunk of nursing that is
reports. Reports might be one of the most important parts of writing in a nursing
profession. When Dr. Taylor asked what it was like to write diagnostics she replied
“When writing diagnostics its important that you write to the point in little
words as possible and as legible as possible”.
During my
interview with Rhnea Taylor I learned a lot about the truth and the real
expectations of writing in nursing. Writing in nursing is something that any
one who wants to be a nurse needs to prepare for it is not an easy task, but a very
important one.
